About the Role
As a Locomotive Driver Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting daily train operations. Your responsibilities will include:
- Assisting the Locomotive Driver in the safe and efficient operation of freight trains
- Preparing locomotives for service, including pre-start checks and system testing
- Coordinating shunting movements, coupling and uncoupling wagons, and assembling trains
- Promptly reporting faults, issues, or irregularities
- Complying with all safety protocols and site procedures

Training Details
- Classroom-based training will be held in Tamworth
- Practical training and assessments will take place at a live site in Werris Creek
- All training is paid and delivered by a nationally recognised RTO
- Accommodation and meals provided while training in Tamworth
- Employed from day one in a paid casual position
- Structured, accredited training to prepare you for the rail environment

To be successful in this role, you will:
- Be committed to safety and following procedures
- Be reliable, punctual, and willing to learn
- Have sound reading, writing & computer skills to complete training and workplace documentation
- Communicate effectively and work well as part of a team
- Be physically fit and able to work outdoors in various conditions
- Be able to pass a Category 1 Rail Medical, including drug and alcohol screening
- Be able to complete a Musculoskeletal Fitness Assessment
- Hold (or be willing to obtain) a First Aid Certificate
- Hold a Class C or higher Drivers Licence with no restrictions.
