Qualified Locomotive Driver, Mt Isa Line

Trojan Rail is seeking experienced and safety focused Qualified Locomotive Drivers for casual work based in Townsville.

This role involves operating mixed freight services on the Mt Isa Line within a 24/7 rail environment.

About the role

Your duties will include:

• Preparing, inspecting and operating locomotives and freight trains
• Undertaking mainline, crew van and barracks working
• Provisioning locomotives and completing control system checks
• Identifying and reporting faults
• Completing operational and compliance documentation
• Liaising with Network Control and other operational personnel
• Following all network rules, safe-working requirements and operational procedures

What you will need

To be considered, you must have:

• Certificate IV in Train Driving or a recognised equivalent
• Proven experience as a Qualified Locomotive Driver
• Current or recent locomotive driver competencies
• Current unrestricted Queensland driver licence
• Ability to meet Category 1 rail medical requirements
• Ability to meet drug and alcohol testing requirements
• Strong safety, communication and teamwork skills
• Availability for rostered shifts, including nights, weekends and public holidays
• Ability to undertake crew van and barracks working

Experience on the Mt Isa Line and current Queensland Rail RCS safe-working qualifications are desirable but not essential.

Successful applicants must complete all required pre-employment checks, training, competency reviews and Verification of Competency requirements before commencing unsupervised duties.

This is casual employment, with hours offered according to operational requirements.
