Trojan Rail is looking for reliable and safety focused people to train as Locomotive Driver Assistants in Moss Vale.

No previous rail experience is required.

Successful applicants will complete paid training, workplace observation and supervised shifts before completing client training and Verification of Competency.

About the Role

Once qualified, you will work alongside a Locomotive Driver to support the safe operation of freight trains.

Your duties may include:

• Assisting with train preparation and safety checks
• Supporting shunting and yard activities
• Communicating with train crew and operational staff
• Following safe-working rules and procedures
• Completing operational records
• Working safely around locomotives, wagons and rail infrastructure

Roster and Availability

This is not a Monday to Friday job.

Shifts may include days, nights, weekends, public holidays and short notice work.

You will provide your availability and may be offered shifts when work is available.

Pay Rates

• Classroom training: $32.18 per hour plus superannuation
• Workplace training shifts: $44.90 per hour plus superannuation
• Qualified Driver Assistant work: rates may exceed $70.00 per hour, including applicable penalties

Hours are not guaranteed.

What We Are Looking For

You must be safety focused, reliable and punctual, willing to learn and able to follow instructions. You must also work well in a small team, be comfortable working shifts, and confidently use computers and digital devices.
  
Essential Requirements

Applicants must:

• Hold Australian working rights
• Hold a current unrestricted Australian Class C driver licence or higher
• Have reliable transport
• Be available for the full training program
• Pass a Category 1 Rail Safety Worker medical & fitness assessment
• Pass a National Police Check
• Participate in drug and alcohol testing
• Hold HLTAID011 Provide First Aid, or be willing to obtain it before training

You must successfully complete the Trojan Rail training program and all required assessments before progressing to training with our host employer.

You must then complete the host employer’s training, clearances and Verification of Competency before undertaking qualified work.
